Module 1: Beyond Average (1-Variable Statistics)
Subject area
Grades
Duration
Content & Standards Focus
Analyzing distributions, comparing center and variability, and drawing conclusions from data
Students use data to explore how their classmates are similar and different.
What can data reveal about the people around us? Students gather and analyze data about their classmates, using statistics to uncover patterns, tell stories, and communicate insights. Through surveys and statistical analysis, students develop artifacts that describe their classroom community and share their findings with others. As students engage in the modeling cycle, they begin to see how data can help them understand the world — and each other — in new ways.
Testimonials
One student tracked his guitar playing, realized he needed more consistent practice, and took action. That’s what teachers dream of—students analyzing data and applying it.
