M211:DataManagementandVisualization

Data Management and Visualization

How might a social media company's data about teen usage differ from teens' own self-reported hours? What part of a story is told by data — and what part is left out? Data can be messy, and collecting it requires careful thought. In M211 Data Management and Visualization, you'll explore the first steps a data scientist takes when making sense of the world through data.

In M211 Data Management and Visualization, you will:

• Organize univariate, bivariate, and multivariate data into rows and columns, and learn strategies for handling missing values
• Represent and describe data, transforming it as needed for predictive modeling
• Decide what visual representation best fits a given type of data, and use data visualization to identify and communicate the story the data tells
• Use technology to gather data ethically, then organize, clean, and represent it meaningfully

Examples of careers that use M211 concepts: data analytics, marketing, programming, and investigative journalism.
